So this is just gonna be A and minus one times four. In other words, times are a common ratio. A recursive formula is gonna be something that looks like A N equals A and minus one. So now we just use this, we move on to the second step, which is we're going to write a recursive formula. So clearly, in this case, our r our common ratio is equal to four. And what we can see here is that from 5 to 20 you have to multiply by four, from 20 to 80 you also multiply by four and from 80 to 320 you also multiply by four. So what do I have to do to five to get to 20? Well, the first thing you're gonna do here is you're gonna find R by dividing any two consecutive terms So we're gonna have to do is take a look at the pattern between the two numbers. ![]() Notice how the difference is not the same between the numbers, but there is a pattern that's going on here. All you have to do is first find the common ratio and then we can set up using this equation over here. And in fact, there's a lot of similarities between how we did this for arithmetic sequences. So let's go ahead and take a look at our example here because sometimes you may be asked to write recursive formulas for geometric sequences. So these tend to grow a much faster and arithmetic sequences. Whereas in geometric sequences, these tend to grow very fast because they're exponential, right, they're gowhereas this is only 369 12. So these types of sequences, the numbers grow a little bit slower. And what we're gonna see here also is that uh generally addition grows a little bit slower than multiplication. ![]() Whereas in geometric sequences, you multiply numbers to get with the next term. So clearly we can see here that the only difference between these two is the operation that's involved for arithmetic, you always add numbers to get to the next term. A and the new term is gonna be the previous term times R whatever that common ratio is. So and in fact the sort of general sort of a sort of a structure that you'll see for these recursive formulas for geometric sequences is they'll always look like this. That's really all there is to it, the way that you use these formulas to find the next terms is exactly the same. While in this geometric sequence, we're gonna take the previous term and instead we have to multiply by three. So in this situation, we just took the previous term and added three. Remember, recursive formulas are just formulas that tell you the next term based on the previous term. Now, we can use this common ratio to find additional terms by setting up a recursive formula. So little R in this case is equal to three kind of like how in this case little D was equal to three. And the letter we use for this is little R. Now this ratio over here is called the common ratio. ![]() So instead of adding three to each number to get the next one, you have to multiply by three to get the next number. So for example, from 3 to 9, you have to multiply by three, from 9 to 27 you also multiply by three from 27 to 81 you multiply by three. For example, the common difference in this situation of the sequence was three, a geometric sequence is a special type where the ratio between terms is always the same number. So remember that arithmetic sequences are special types where the difference between terms was always the same. So I wanna show you how to do that and the basic difference between these two types. And what we're gonna see is that there's a lot of similarities between how we use the information and the pattern across the numbers to set up a recursive formula for these types of sequences. What I'm gonna show you in this video is that this is a special type of sequence called a geometric sequence sequence. It's constantly getting bigger, but there's still actually a pattern going on with this sequence. Clearly, we can see that the difference between numbers is never the same. ![]() But let's take a look at this sequence over here. So we just finished talking a lot about arithmetic sequences like for example, 369 12, where the difference between each number is always the same number. ![]()

(Boss Rush is unlocked as well in versions that have this feature) In Iron Frog, the player has to progress through ten completely new, difficult levels with only one life. As the player progresses in the Adventure mode, Iron Frog and Challenge modes are unlocked. At the end of each island area, the player encounters a tiki god and must face the god in a boss battle. There are six island areas that consist of ten levels each. In Adventure mode, the player progresses through a Polynesian-style island ruled by the angry god Zhaka Mu. These levels have an unlimited number of lives, so if any single ball reaches the emblem, the player will simply restart the level, since there is no game over in boss levels. The enemies in turn shoot projectiles that will induce a certain gimmick if they hit the player. There are also boss levels where the player has to shoot balls toward the enemies to reduce their hit points while simultaneously preventing the ball string(s) from reaching the skull emblem. Some levels feature two lily pads that the frog can jump between, while other levels set the frog on a horizontal or vertical track and enable it to slide side-to-side or up-and-down rather than rotate to aim. Zuma's Revenge! introduces three types of levels that are new to the series. These include a visual guide to show where a ball will land when shot, power-ups that slow down or reverse the direction of the string, a three-way cannon that blasts through all layers of balls, a laser that can destroy single balls, a bomb, and a lightning power-up which destroys all balls of a specific color. Periodically, random balls display power-ups which the player may collect by destroying the ball. The strings are always "pushed" by the last ball in the string, so any balls not connected to the rearmost string do not move on their own. However, unlike in the original Zuma in which regardless of stage, they are allowed to play stage one of the temple again, when the player gets a game over, they will start again at the checkpoint (stage one of an area if the player loses before the mid-level and stage six if the same situation happens in stages six to ten). Should they reach the emblem, the player gets eaten by the skull emblem and loses a life, and the game ends when the player runs out of lives. The strings of balls constantly roll along their tracks toward a skull emblem at the end. Gaps automatically close if the balls at either end of the gap are (or become) the same color, potentially creating chain reaction matching and clearing as new sets of three or more are formed. This clearing creates gaps through which a player may shoot more balls at nearby strings, target bonus fruit, and 'power-up' stones. When three or more balls of the same color match together, they are cleared from the playfield. Players move a ball-shooting frog which always points in the direction of the mouse to aim and fire balls at these strings. However, the game did receive minor criticism for its similarity to the previous game.Īs in Zuma, the main objective of Zuma's Revenge! is to clear strings of rolling balls, or 'stones', by matching balls of the same color. Upon release, the game received mostly positive reviews from critics, with many citing the boss battles and gags as the game's highlights. ![]() The physical copy for the Xbox 360 includes two bonus titles: Bejeweled 3 and Feeding Frenzy 2. ![]() A Nintendo DS version was introduced in February 2011 which features daily challenges, versus mode and achievements. From what I've been able to determine, the 57 through 64 big Ford front suspensions are all alike in design. The principle of closure states that we organize our perceptions into complete objects rather than as a series of parts (figure below). ![]() The law of continuity suggests that we are more likely to perceive continuous, smooth flowing lines rather than jagged, broken lines (figure below). Two additional Gestalt principles are the law of continuity (or good continuation) and closure. We are grouping these dots according to the principle of similarity. When looking at this array of dots, we likely perceive alternating rows of colors. When watching an offensive drive, we can get a sense of the two teams simply by grouping along this dimension. For example, when watching a football game, we tend to group individuals based on the colors of their uniforms. According to this principle, things that are alike tend to be grouped together (figure below). We might also use the principle of similarity to group things in our visual fields. Here are some more examples: Cany oum akes enseo ft hiss entence? What doth es e wor dsmea n? We group the letters of a given word together because there are no spaces between the letters, and we perceive words because there are spaces between each word. For example, we read this sentence like this, notl iket hiso rt hat. How we read something provides another illustration of the proximity concept. The Gestalt principle of proximity suggests that you see (a) one block of dots on the left side and (b) three columns on the right side. This principle asserts that things that are close to one another tend to be grouped together, as the figure below illustrates. The concept of figure-ground relationship explains why this image can be perceived either as a vase or as a pair of faces.Īnother Gestalt principle for organizing sensory stimuli into meaningful perception is proximity. Presumably, our ability to interpret sensory information depends on what we label as figure and what we label as ground in any particular case, although this assumption has been called into question (Peterson & Gibson, 1994 Vecera & O’Reilly, 1998). As the figure below shows, our perception can vary tremendously, depending on what is perceived as figure and what is perceived as ground. Figure is the object or person that is the focus of the visual field, while the ground is the background. According to this principle, we tend to segment our visual world into figure and ground. One Gestalt principle is the figure-ground relationship. This perspective has been supported by modern cognitive science through fMRI research demonstrating that some parts of the brain, specifically the lateral occipital lobe, and the fusiform gyrus, are involved in the processing of whole objects, as opposed to the primary occipital areas that process individual elements of stimuli (Kubilius, Wagemans & Op de Beeck, 2011). They are also aimed at understanding sensory and perception as processing information as groups or wholes instead of constructed wholes from many small parts. Gestalt perspectives in psychology represent investigations into ambiguous stimuli to determine where and how these ambiguities are being resolved by the brain. As a result, Gestalt psychology has been extremely influential in the area of sensation and perception (Rock & Palmer, 1990). Gestalt psychologists translated these predictable ways into principles by which we organize sensory information. ![]() In other words, the brain creates a perception that is more than simply the sum of available sensory inputs, and it does so in predictable ways. The word gestalt literally means form or pattern, but its use reflects the idea that the whole is different from the sum of its parts. This belief led to a new movement within the field of psychology known as Gestalt psychology. Wertheimer, and his assistants Wolfgang Köhler and Kurt Koffka, who later became his partners, believed that perception involved more than simply combining sensory stimuli. ![]() In the early part of the 20th century, Max Wertheimer published a paper demonstrating that individuals perceived motion in rapidly flickering static images-an insight that came to him as he used a child’s toy tachistoscope.
